Development History

Centre for European Studies at Renmin University of China was firstly set up in 1994, affiliated to the Department of International Politics and Department of International Economics at RUC.

In 1996, it became a university-based centre with annual budget and separate office facilities.

Under the framework of EU-China Higher Educational Cooperation Programme from 1997-2001, the CESRUC was one of the six major centres in China supported by the EU-China Programme.

In 2000 the CESRUC was awarded by the Ministry of Education of PRC as the National Key Research Centres for Humanity and Social Sciences, with extra annual funding from both the Ministry and RUC.

EU-China High Education Cooperation Programme

Under the EU-China Higher Education Cooperation Programme from 1997-2001, as one of the six centres the CESRUC run 116 projects under the framework, which included:

100 faculty from 20 schools and departments at RUC participated the Programme.

Sir Leon Brittan, the formal Vice President of European Commission and Mr. Endymion Wilkinson,

formal Head of EU Delegation in China came to visite Renmin University of China in 1998.

CESRUC Research Fellows

Currently there are 14 full-time research fellows from RUC and 18 part-time fellows from RUC and other institutions in China and abroad.

Among 14 full-time fellows, there are 12 full-professors and 2 associate professors, 11 PhD supervisors, and 90% of them have the PhD degrees in Political Science, Law, Economics, Sociology in China or abroad. All of them had experiences of studying abroad, especially in Europe, and 4 of them studied abroad for more than 2 years and 11 of them more than 1 year.
